Above is the Indianapolis whale wall painted by the artist, Wyland. Wyland has been painting these murals all over the country and the world.
Tonight I was running an errand and stopped to take the above photo (among others). Why? Well, because I don't have any photos of the whale wall.
And I lived in Milwaukee for years and never took a photo of the whale wall that city had. Had. The idiotic elected county officials decided to demo the building it was on. Geez.
ANYWAY...
Wyland is in Beijing, China. Where he is working on his 100th and final whaling wall, scheduled to be completed in time for the 2008 Olympics. You can see photos of his trip to China at his My Space page. And he has videos on You Tube as well.
100 murals of whales and other marine life. Wikipedia has a list of the whaling walls.
His commitment to using art to educate about marine life... is very inspiring to me.
(Oh, it might not be completely accurate... but essentially that is what Scotty told Kirk after they beamed two humpback whales into a cargo bay in the 4th Star Trek movie.)
