I watch cable news channels. I like being in touch with current events. And it seems that I tune in at right time to see amazing news like I've posted on this blog occasionally. Amazing news that is good news... heartfelt news... positive news. Because so much of the news is bad - I like sharing tidbits from news media that is positive.
But today I saw a video that really disturbed me. The video shows a man being run down in a hit-and-run accident. It shows the car hitting him and speeding off. There are many people on the sidewalks, and other vehicles too. Many witnesses. The man is laying in the middle of the street.
AND NOBODY IS GOING TO HIS SIDE TO HELP OR COMFORT HIM!
I saw people looking at him, but nobody left the sidewalk. I saw other cars and motorcycles driving on the street, but none stopped to help. Finally, after a minute and a half, a police car shows up... on its way to another emergency, it stops to help and calls for an ambulance.
NOBODY WENT TO HIM TO HELP HIM. They let him lay in the road, at high risk of being run over. (I should point out that the report stated there were 4 calls to 911).
There are many times I'm totally impressed by the way people step up and do what's right to support each other. But there are times like this... I'm disgusted by the cold, icy, selfishness that some people have in place of their heart and soul.
